Literature & Research 11/12
This is an introductory survey course. Students will examine American literature as an expression of the cultures which produced it. Students will be encouraged to use the literary experience as a means of understanding our individual and collective identity as Americans. This course will offer students a survey of American Literature from the Puritans to the 21st century. Students will analyze and discuss a series of short stories, nonfiction, and poetry, focused mainly on contemporary American authors and poets essential to building an understanding of our American literary heritage. Students will also produce a research paper and a poetry portfolio as they progress through these literary landscapes.
Prerequisites: English 9; English Language and Literature
