SENIOR YEAR PLANNING CHECKLIST 2022-2023

September
· See Mrs. Pearce in the guidance office to complete your senior interview. Transcript of grades, overall gpa, classrank, graduation pathway and postsecondary plans will be discussed.
· Sign up for the SAT School Day which will be held on Thursday, October 27th. The cost of the exam is $$60. If you have difficulty paying this fee, please see Mrs. Pearce in the guidance office. Make checks payable to Marion Center High School.
· Make a calendar of key application and financial aid deadlines.
· Ask teachers, counselors, and other adults you know for letters of recommendation for scholarship and admissions applications. Keep copies of letters.
· Apply to institutions. Be sure to note any Early Decision, Early Action or regular decision deadlines. Complete the record release form in the guidance office so transcripts can be sent.
· Remember, if your SAT fee was waived due to free or reduced lunches, check your college board dashboard to use your waivers to apply to post secondary institutions.
· Attend college/military representative visits when they are scheduled at Marion Center. Listen to the announcements and sign up in the guidance office.
· Begin to gather data for the FAFSA.
· If you are interested in the military, sign up for the ASVABS which will be which will be held during the fall semester.
· Sign up for the AP tests on the College Board website. Tests will be in May.
· Complete Dual Enrollment paperwork if necessary. Paperwork is due towards the end of the month.
· Attend the virtual financial aid presentation on Wednesday, Sept. 28th beginning at 6pm.
· Pay attention to Senior Shirt ordering information.
October
· Attend in person or virtual campus visits or college fairs for the schools you have identified.
· Apply to your selected institutions (if you have not yet already done so).
· Do online scholarship searches but DO NOT PAY for these services. Read “Counselor News” to find out about scholarship opportunities, and complete those that you are eligible for.
· Check out the scholarships listed on our webpage. Check back often for updates.
· File your FAFSA beginning October 1st using tax information from 2020.
· Sign up and take the SAT School Day on October 27th.
November
· Apply to your selected institutions (if you have not already done so). Remember, Thanksgiving is coming!!!!
· Attend campus visits or college fairs for the schools you have identified.

· Investigate potential sources of financial aid. Resources include the institutions you plan to attend, the Guidance Office, the World Wide Web, and your local library and bookstores.
· Check the scholarship listings found in the “Counselor News” and on the website.
· If requested, send your first marking period grades to an institution.
· Attend the informational session for caps, gowns and announcements.
· Attend the Financial Aid Workshop in the high school auditorium beginning at 6pm on Thursday, November 17th. This is the same day as parent teacher conferences.
December
· Apply to your selected institutions (if you have not yet already done so).
· Investigate potential sources of financial aid.
· Check the scholarship listings given and apply for those that you are eligible.
· Complete the FAFSA if you haven’t already done so.
· Vote on Senior Class Motto
January
· Continue to complete scholarship applications.
· If you have registered with the NCAA Clearinghouse, be sure that the Guidance office has been given the appropriate release so that mid-year transcripts can be sent to that organization.
· Males over the age of 18 must register for the Selective Service to receive financial aid.
· Place commencement orders for announcements, etc.
February
· If you have not already done so, complete the FAFSA.
· If requested by your institution, request that your mid-year grades be mailed.
· Review financial aid offers from each college/technical school.
· Investigate potential sources of financial aid.
· Check the scholarship listings and complete those that you are eligible for.
· Submit names for your diploma
· Submit your vote for class song and class flower
· Read distributed letter about cap, gown, and class trip fees.
March/April
· If you have not already done so, complete the FAFSA. Keep a copy.
· Watch for your SAR (Student Aid Report) to determine financial aid eligibility. Pay particular attention to the EFC (expected family contribution).
· Review financial aid offers from each college/technical school and compare offers. Keep copies.
· Investigate potential sources of financial aid. Note application deadlines for your chosen institutions.
· Pay for your cap, gown, and class trip.
· Look for potential employment opportunities for after graduation if you are going straight in to the world of work.
· Make an appointment to meet with a military recruiter if you are interested in the military.
· Inform college/technical school that you plan on attending. Be aware of each institution’s deadlines! May 1 is a common deadline for many schools.
May/June

· Complete the dual enrollment transcript request form if applicable.
· Complete the senior profile that will be distributed in English classes.
· Write “Thank you’s” to people who wrote you letters of recommendation.
· Attend mandatory graduation practices if you are participating in the graduation ceremony.
· Attend Vespers and invite as many people as you would like!
· Attend the senior trip. Wear sun screen!
· Attend the awards assembly.
· Graduation is on Thursday, June 1st! You made it!
