Intro to Performing Arts

Introduction to Performing Arts is a 9 week course given to all 8th graders at Marion Center. Through various activities, students will develop a basic understanding of Music and Theater. Units of study will include (but not limited to): Elements of Music, Music History, Music through the Decades (1920s-now), Ukulele/Piano Playing, Musical Theater, Greek & Roman Theatre History, Acting & Improvisation, Technical Theater: Prop Making, Costume Design, Set & Lighting Design, Marketing, and Jobs in Theatre. Our studies will include reviewing and expanding vocabulary, developing critical listening skills, and experiencing new subjects they may not otherwise get the opportunity to encounter. This course is designed to give an introduction to these subjects, leading to further opportunities to study more in Senior High electives.
