Music Theory

The purpose of this course is to give music students an in-depth knowledge and understanding of how to read music, develop aural skills, compose, analyze, and perform music. Students will be able to use these tools and methodologies to broaden their understanding of music as a whole and improve their own musicianship. This course is designed for the serious music student who is interested in learning more about the basic concepts of music theory and how music is developed. Students will improve their individual musicianship and understanding of all music through studies in all content areas of music theory. This course will also successfully prepare students for entry-level college music theory classes. It is preferred that students are members of one of our music ensembles and it is helpful to read music, but not required.
