Painting I

This course is devoted to introductory painting.  Emphasis in the course is placed on working at the level of the student and helping the student to develop understandings and abilities in painting.  Drawing skills and techniques will be taught to improve compositions for paintings.  Students will paint with a variety of painting media such as tempera, watercolor and acrylic as well as a variety of painting surfaces.  Students will be exposed to a variety of styles and methods and instruction will be offered to meet the needs of the developing artist.  Students will develop an understanding and utilize color terminology and color schemes as well as the visual effects of color.
